Shaun Inman is probably one of the designers (in the broadest meaning possible) that gets most of my respect.
He’s an exceptional graphic designer, a superb web designer, an eclectic word designer.
His newest release of shauninman.com is a tribute to web, design, filosophy, usability, accessibility, poetry, geekness, semantics, beauty, color (and the lack of it), mathematics, time.
Here I stop because time is what this new issue stands for.
It’s time based and at the same time timeless (pardon my word thumbling).
I just want to quote this
No more IFR. No more JavaScript. No more Din (!). No more single-pixel diagonal lines. No more tiny gray text on blinding white. No more miniature widgets. No more Movable Type.
Less Web 2.0. More like Web Two-point-No.
I can’t explain it any better than his readme, and his readmore.
WOW… goose bumps.

Yesterday I was at some friends’ shop buying fine italian food, when I saw the most beautiful thing you can find on a grocery table.
It’s the “broccolo romano” (roman broccoli) and it caught my eyes for shape, color, feel.
It’s so beautiful it looks fake.
I wish I knew the scientific name for it.

Every time I face episodes of copied ideas I can’t resist pointing them out.
Then the target can apply for self-defense/justification.
It happened about an old Heineken advert, and now again, another “original” advertising idea comes out in funny NL.
The Amsterdam Sandberg Institute sells space on its building, to create a 1 million dollar façade.
This is exactly the same target achieved (couple years ago) by its creator with One Million Dollar Homepage.
Now, my dear creative dutch advertising agencies, can you at least give credit when you take someone else’s idea and transpose it to dutch adverts?
At least, since we’re in europe, do you mind using Euro as a currency?
anybody trying to defend them(selves)?

I sometimes wonder where does max get these ideas, but he had a great one and registered a domain
iloveclients.com
that now points to his blog (once named “fresh” and linked in my favorites).
the articles are great, it’s just a pity they’re italian only.
enjoy

You know that time of the day when you just want to relax and slip that game in your console/computer, launch it, and have some quality time shooting around and spilling blood?
Well, once we were able to do in privacy, now it looks like that tender moment of violence will have to be shared with big ad companies.
What we’re talking about is EA’s battlefield 2142.
It seems that a slight amount of spyware will be gathering anonymous information such as IP address (that’s anonymous, right?) etc.
Eliza Gauger writes on Kotaku about this. I’d say that the part about collecting information is real stand-up comedy.

Every now and then I look at pictures too.
I’m not a text only dude, although that’s how I spend most of my day.
Today I found a link to this really well concepted/produced PDF magazine.
Many interesting artists and musicians are featured, and I think it’s really worth a look.
Good design, beautiful photography, stunning imagery…
DAMN!!!
I forgot the text!

I might be too much of a dreamer, or just a hopeless hoper, but yesterday I had this crazy thought of a (many times rumoured) wide-screen iPod.
The hope for it has made me decide not to buy any new iPod or accessory before that comes out.
I also thought something (here it comes the conspiracy) about the iPod game API/SDK that Apple’s not releasing.
Consider a game developed at the moment, let’s say Bejeweled.
It is developed to work on a 320×240 screen or let’s say close resolutions.
Now what’s going to happen if an eventual 480×360 (3:4 ratio) or a wide-screen 480×234 iPod comes out?
Shouldn’t the game center itself or adapt to a new screen?
Probably this option is in the SKD already (if they’re smart enough), as many other features of a soon coming new model.
Could this be the reason why Apple is not publicly (or widely) distributing the SKD?
Conspiracy fans summon!

I was working on a project and had to style a login page, when after hours of happiness I tried the page on a windows machine using Internet Explorer, just to find out that the above mentioned browser was adding space to a DIV.
Reason?

One of the point in being a geek is laziness.
We all are, but we “forget” to have lunch just because we’re too lazy to go downstairs (1 floor in my case).
We’re too lazy to do stuff that will benefit us, like changing the color scheme in our text editor (which we face hours a day).
Here came John Gruber with his fantastic utility BBColors, and couple ready made settings to ease our life.
BBEdit’s never been this comfortable to me.
