After spending days doing toner transfer to etch PCB’s, I decided it was time to build my own UV exposure box.
I’ll make this into a tutorial soon, just wanted to show off a little.

This morning I was reading the umpteenth article about the delay of Leopard (OsX 10.5) in favor of an “on-time” release of the newest Cupertino’s toy: the iPhone.
Then I saw an image of a prank about the whole story that has been promptly removed…
What I could see was a huge 10.5.
Am I the only one guessing that the day this release slipped to on October might be the 5th?
10.5
October.5
well… just throwing my conspiracy theories to the mass.
maybe I got it and I have a record of it.
maybe I’m spending too much time programming and I see numbers everywhere…
like “the number 23″…
ok. too much now.

This might easily become the best news item of the morning.
It’s 7.59 am and I’ve been awake sipping my coffee and reading news since 7.25.
I bumped into this post on Kotaku about Capcom releasing an HD version of one of my favorite games ever:
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo.
This will be tagged as “HD Remix”.
It will pack HD madness with redesigned and adapted characters and games graphics.
I like the results (check the gallery on Kotaku) and I can’t wait for this to be available on Xbox Live Arcade (as they say will happen).
I own an original copy of the game for PS, very appreciated gift from my friend Max.
The game is pretty hard to find, and I consider it a privilege owning one.
The hard side of it is it looks very bad on an HD screen, so
Thank you Capcom for bringing back the SuperDeformed DarkStalkers to our screens.
thanx Kotaku

I’m learning electronics, and with it comes the need to design and build your own circuits for stuff.
I’m therefore learning a CAD to support this process.
My choice (and of many others) is Eagle by CadSoft.
This is a screenshot of my still to be refined all-in-one touch sensor.
It’s going to be used in an upcoming project with Waag Society.
If there’s electronics designers around, you’re more then welcome with suggestions.
I’m a newbie and there’s always room for improvements on well done things…
guess on this.

I have successfully etched my first (almost) professional looking board.
I used to etch when I was a kid, using markers to create traces (ugly traces).
reading through a few tutorial online, I attempted to use a technique called “toner transfer” using several different kind of papers/printer settings.
I think I got the best combination using a very cheap matt paper and a good etchant (ammonium persulfate).
the result is pretty good, if you consider I’m at my second etching.
thanks to Thomas P. Gootee for his eccellent tutorial.

friends (which I suppose are the only readers of this journal), I’m glad to introduce the new design for random()type.
based on a design by Arcsin, and its transposition to WordPress by Nieto2k, this new design takes the basic structure of the WP theme “deep red” and evolves into something cleaner and more suitable for random()type.
it took me about 2 days to figure out the ins and outs of that theme and thanks to its very well done structure, I could pull out something I liked more.
now I’m quite satisfied about it. as most of you know I’m not a graphic designer.
I’m trying to figure out other things to add to integrate the rest of my web life (del.icio.us, flickr, twitter etc.).
this won’t happen anytime soon, as I’m flooded with work, but it will.
I want to thank:
arcsin and nieto for creating the basic theme: deep red

I’ve already modified quite a lot in the source code for the Deep Red theme used as a base theme.
StyleSheet is changed a little (mainly in matter of colors and sizes).
The index and other PHP pages to generate output have been changed too.
I think I’m half-way through.
Now it’s time to reduce the huge amount of tags used to a human understandable set.
This should have been done more than a year ago, when I realized that my tag craze should have put through its paces.
Too late?

I was going through the new PS3 site “this is living” when I found out this section with movies.
the intro movie contains a watermark “created with Flip4Mac trial”.

My idea about it is that they haven’t realized this (which is quite odd).
The option would be that to simulate user uploaded content, they might have decided to place the watermark on the video but…
Why choose flip4mac which is so mac specific?
A whatever John would have used a Windows pc.
A whatever Justin would have used a Mac with quicktime, and not used flip4mac to maybe export a WMV to upload…
Am I explaining myself?
I hope at least the John vs. Justin example is understood by the clever ones.

found this on coudal (which I recommend to read) and there was a direct Flickr link.
so thanks to Flickr’s ability to blog a picture, here it is.
the nerd bagel case.
I’d patent this for the purpose, although those cases are not suitable for food.
anyone starting a bagels franchise for nerds, should consider this.

I was a follower of this widget engine (formerly Konfabulator) since the beginning.
I bought a license at the time and got a money refund when it was later bought by Yahoo! and converted to Yahoo! Widget Engine.
I have to admit nothing changed, although a big name was behind it, and no login credentials “upgrade” was needed, so I was happy.
These guys deserved the bucks they got out of the deal (whatever it was).
Couple weeks ago, Yahoo! released a new “much improved” engine for these widgets with a bunch of useless features like this side menu for OsX

The main reason why I always disable my dashboard and install YWE instead, is that it allows me to have my weather and day planner always on my desktop.
This is a useful feature and the engine itself is (I should say “was”) much lighter than Apple’s.
Now, what’s the point in having a 3rd party application running “against nature” and not even working?
The damn day planner doesn’t display the category colors (making the calendar hard to understand at first sight) and now it doesn’t even update. I have to close the widget and reopen it.
Besides, that annoying dock keeps popping out and sometimes it fails to get focus when I instead need it…
I’m really annoyed by this today. They had 2 weeks to fix this thing and nothing happened.
Probably enabling DashBoard again and uninstalling the thing.
