the gPhone platform and the missing big ones?

I was just reading about this great future platform that will be the gPhone thing.
Most of my interest was in checking who are the players out there that will be contributing: hardware manufacturers, carriers, service providers.

I’m very disappointed in finding that 2 big ones are not playing the game.
Nokia and Vodafone are not there, while we can see Samsung/Motorola and NTT DoCoMo/Sprint/T-Mobile.
I don’t mention HTC as they’re not direct competitors of Nokia, although their efforts in the smartphone market are everything but remarkable. I don’t share the love for Windows Mobile, though.

On the members page a whole list of big names appears.

Now what’s the reason why the company who spent real money on buying Navtek, Intellisync, etc… not to jump on the wagon of Google Maps, online office suites, big unified/open internet platform?

Oh… maybe I’ve answered the question myself.
Of course I’ll keep using Nokia devices, and won’t switch my carrier after having tried a few.
Disappointing, nonetheless.

Let’s wait for november 12 and see what this platform is for real.
Too bad we’ll have to wait for a little longer to actually be able to implement any code.
Can’t wait to shell some cash out.
