15 hours with Nokia E61

It’s been a long day as the others, but this time it might look like a joke, but I feel soooo damn good.
I’ve been doing things I do everyday like making phone calls, sending/reading emails, taking/moving/canceling appointments.

These things today were faster on the move, cause I had a great companion for the tasks.
I’ve been doing email on E61 regularly and used wireless connections around amsterdam.
I have it syncing with my powerbook as I’ve said before.

Many mac users already know or figured out how to add a phone to the supported list in iSync, but for others, I’m here to confirm that this is the model definition

pay attention at family.com.nokia.series60v2.3.
differently from series60v2.2 which requires an iSync agent, this family makes use of Nokia’s native syncML application as shown in this picture

I also created an icon to use in iSync. here it is (it’s a tiff) nokiaE61_icon

To know more about how to add the definition and the icon, refer this article on MacOsXHints

I’ll keep posting about it, as I’m really excited about it.

    Hi,

do your AllDay Events (Memo’s in Nokia speak) sync correctly omn your E61? I am syncing my E60 and all is fine except for AllDay Events. When created in iCal and synced, they show as 00:00-23:59 on the phone. When created on the phone they are fine in iCal.

    Thanks,
    Alex

    hi, alex
how’s the e60? it looks beautiful.

I experience the same issue, but I don’t think it can be considered an issue after all.
they communicate using SyncML, and the fact that nokia categorizes 00:00 23:59 an “all day event” is normal.
ical on its side is a bit more clever as handles the full day time (sent by the handset) and converts it to an “all day event” for clearer display.
I personally prefer that the all day event is shown on the e61 as a long line in week/day view.

my only issue now is that while start and end time of events is synced correctly, there’s a weird thing when you choose an alarm for the event.
    example:

appointment: from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm.
    alarm: 20 minutes before

when synced to my e61 this is what happens (as I’m at GMT+2)

appointment: from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm.
    alarm: 8.10 (which is 2 hours more… GMT+2???).
I’m not sure where the problem is, if on the phone or on iCal.

    I’ll investigate further.
    u

Yes, I think the E60 is a really nice device. I was waiting for a “small” Symbian Device. I am testing it as a VoIP client. Has some issues connecting, but once connected talk quality is superb and integration with the phone is brilliant.

I can see the All day event logic. However this makes it impossible to use “Memos” on the phone. They do sync fine to iCal, but if you change them in iCal the become 00:00-23:59 on the phone. This used to work fine pre syncML, but I think it was a “hack” as in the old series60 .plist there was a key “hasSymbianRecurrence” which was probably Apple’s way of telling iSyncAgent what to do. I’ll keep investigating this as the Memo function is quite important to me.

As far as alarms go. I just tried on mine and the alarm time is fine. I do not have “Time Zone Support” checked in iCal and my timezone is set to GMT+2 as well (Switzerland, Summer Time)

This is so helpful. I’ve been at a loss as how to sync between my Mac and the E61.
    Thanks

Thanks for this – I have the E60 working but needed to get my E61 going as well.

ALEX — you mention VOIP. I’ve been trying with absoulte futility to get my device working (E60) with a number of providers. Would you be so kind to tell us what provider/setup you have it working on ? (or anyone else that reads this that has successfully connected)

    PLEASE HELP
i followed the instructions, but on my list of places to add that code into i didnt see the “family.com.nokia.series60v2.3.” anywhere in the list
    only series60v1

i even bought this other software from some company that writes a software program to do this for me… but they havent sent it yet :( i need to sync my contacts sooo badly.

    thanks..

  9. ubi Says:

    hi, joe.
    are you using iSync 2.2?
    are you on Tiger?

besides, after a few tests, we realized that the NovaMedia plugin is the best option, as it has a better syncML definition table.
this allows to overcome the alarm time issue.

  11. Hille Says:

Thx. I allready started adding my contacts by Hand…

  12. cellindo Says:

anybody have this plugin? because its not free now

  13. ubi Says:

    cellindo:
the plugin is for sale, people who discuss in here have bought it, including me.
it works very well and it’s the only actual sync solution for this series of phones.
