E61 as a Bluetooth modem on Mac

A few days ago I had the need to download an attachment from a webmail account, and seeing as I was driving around, I only had my laptop and my E61.
First thing I tried was the usual “high speed connection over bluetooth” I was used to since the early 6630 days.
That didn’t work at all.

I’ve been fiddling around with settings for 2 minutes before giving up.
Luckily the E61 has a kick-ass browser that allowed me to login to that webmail account, download the attachments, view it (word document), save it and send it over Bluetooth.
This is yet another thing that makes me love this device.

This morning I decided to give it another go.
After the usual googling with no result at all, I bumped into this post on HowardForums where on page 2 you can read from hillstrubl’s post

i finally got my working reliably,

when setting up the E61 as a bluetooth device, make sure to choose “dialing up an internet ISP” instead of the “high speed GPRS, 1XrTT connection”

as soon as i did that, using no username or password (and the wap.voicestream.com AP, as i’m on the BB BES plan) i’m good to go

and it works.
so, go back to your bluetooth preferences,
select your device
click on “configure”
select the appropriate setting for internet connection.

this post has been written using a 3g connection from my Mac to my E61.
enjoy.

I found that by specifying the access point (vfinternet.au in my case) as specified in Tools -> Settings -> Connection -> Packet Data -> Access Point, I then used the Mac’s default GPRS, *99***1# connection w/no username and password and success!

    You’re a genius!

Did exactly what you said and it worked a dream.

    Thank you!
