Google Video downloads as .gvi files [lame]

Posted by on Sep 11, 2006 in free, howto | No Comments

sometimes corporations take actions which I can’t explain.

I went to download a video off Google (thank you for letting us), but got kinda bothered by the fact that if I download it as a windows/mac video, I get a .gvi file on my hard drive.

What’s the first thing you do when you have an “unknown” file type?

The answer is simple: if it’s media, drag it into VLC.

Guess what… It worked.

file info: divx with mpeg audio.

wait for the file to be downloaded, locate it on your drive (in the Movies folder on my mac), rename it to .avi and you’re not tied to the player anymore.

cheers, ubi
